Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG)

Information on Disposal of End-of-Life Electrical and Electronic Equipment

In connection with the sale of electrical and electronic equipment, we are required to inform you of the following:

1. All electrical devices intended for private households bear the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin.

elektroG

The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol according to Annex 3 of the ElektroG signifies separate collection from unsorted municipal waste for electrical and electronic equipment.

2. Owners of end-of-life equipment must ensure they dispose of such items separately; they must not be disposed of with household waste.

3. End-of-life batteries and accumulators not enclosed in the device, as well as lamps that can be removed without damage, must be detached before handing in the device at a collection point.

4. Distributors according to §17 ElektroG—those with a sales area of at least 400 m² for electrical goods or 800 m² total for food sales who offer such equipment several times a year—must take back old equipment at no cost:
a. When purchasing a new device of the same type and function, the retailer must take back the old one free of charge at or near the delivery location, including private households.
b. Upon request, distributors must take back small equipment (≤ 25 cm) free of charge, up to three items per category, independently of any new purchase.
c. For distance contracts, free collection is limited to devices in categories 1 (heat exchangers), 2 (screens >100 cm²), and 4 (large appliances).
For categories 3 (lamps), 5 (small appliances), and 6 (small IT/telecom devices), and devices ≤ 25 cm, there must be accessible take-back points within reasonable distance.
